Provide exemplary and innovative education programs for a competency-based, student-centered learning experience that promotes life-long learning behaviors and evidence-based practices. 

Key Objectives (Strategic Directions)

1. Continue to develop and implement teaching and learning modalities which nurture student-centered learning and enhance critical thinking skills and leadership development


  • Promote novel and innovative pedagogy and teaching strategies to enhance student learning and academic excellence
  • Conduct Annual Course Review of all courses for content and pedagogy on a rotating basis
  • Implement preceptor development programs that advance preceptors as educators and practitioners and disseminate periodic Office of Experiential Education Reports
  • Provide leadership development opportunities
  • Develop and disseminate periodic Office of Student Affairs Reports

2. Foster a culture which promotes innovation and scholarship in education and evidence-based practices (EBP)


  • Implement and monitor Faculty Development Plans (3-5 year plans)
  • Ensure faculty career development plans include goals for teaching enhancement
  • Develop, implement and sustain incentives for pursuing excellence in teaching
  • Engage faculty in the CARE initiatives that promote EBP and case-based learning

3. Evaluate and refine/revise the curriculum to ensure the continuity of providing a comprehensive foundation in current as well as evolving basic, social and administrative and clinical sciences


  • Perform ongoing instructional reviews of faculty and courses for continuous quality improvement of teaching, student learning, and academic excellence
  • Map and evaluate the curriculum to ensure compliance with current accreditation standards (e.g., using ACPE Appendix B)
  • Use national assessment data (e.g., NAPLEX results, AACP surveys, etc.) to evaluate curricular effectiveness
