The faculty of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences engages in research, service and educational endeavors. Departmentally sponsored seminars, journal clubs and workshops provide numerous opportunities to: 1) draw on the varied expertise of colleagues; 2) challenge assumptions of each other's disciplines; and 3) help with research-related problem-solving. Collectively, these creative activities catalyze discovery and translational research.
- Primary investigators in the department come from a wide range of biomedical science disciplines including: molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, physiology, genetics, biochemistry and microbiology
- Other scientists in the department engage in the challenges of applied research and pharmacist–led interventions
- Lab techniques and approaches include: cell imaging (confocal microscopy), molecular biology (RT-PCR), biophysical methods for protein chemistry (HPLC), high-throughput screening, mass spectrometry, electrophysiology and animal models of disease
- Disease-related areas of research focus on: cancer, diabetes, reproductive disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative disorders
