ASPIR2E Pre-Matriculation Program

ASPIR2E Pre-Matriculation Program

The Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy is excited to announce the ASPIR2E Pre-Matriculation Program! ASPIR2E stands for Aggie Student Pharmacists Initiative for Recruitment|Retention and Education. This new program is a result of a grant award from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Minority Health Research and Education Grant Program.

The pre-matriculation program is designed to help first-year PharmD students successfully transition to the rigors of the PharmD education and life as a professional student pharmacist.

All admitted Class of 2022 students may apply and 35 students will be selected to participate. To meet the requirements of the funding grant award, first priority will be given to underrepresented minority students. If seats remain, they will be filled based on the interest and needs expressed by the applicants. As noted on the online application, additional priority may be considered for students who indicate they earned a non-science undergraduate major, have been out of school for a substantial period, are changing professions, are a first-generation college student, or possess an educational background that puts them at a disadvantage.

The program is six weeks long but only the first and last weeks are held on campus. The middle four weeks are held online. There is no cost to participate.

Content

The program will focus on six key modules. They are biochemistry, medical terminology, organic chemistry, pharmaceutical calculations, physiology, and student success skills. Developing a solid understanding on the foundational components of these six modules should provide you with a firm bridge for the first-year courses. Please note participating in this program occurs before you enroll and matriculate in the Rangel College of Pharmacy. Any scores you earn during this program do not transfer when you matriculate and does not guarantee that you will complete the first year with any pre-determined grades.
