Scholarships
A scholarship application form must be submitted for each scholarship for which you are applying. Students must be accepted in the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy to be considered for a scholarship. In addition to meeting the criteria for each scholarship, each completed scholarship application must be submitted with a minimum 250 word cover letter indicating a) why you are applying for the scholarship and b) how you meet the minimum criteria for the specific scholarship. All applications must be received before August 1.
D.D. Hachar Charitable Trust and the Lamar-Bruni Vergara Trust Scholarship
General Information
This endowed scholarship fund has been established in honor of D.D. Hachar. The scholarship will be provided to students from Webb County accepted into the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program. The Lamar-Bruni Vergara Trust Fund, through the D.D. Hachar Charitable Trust Fund, is awarded in the amount of $1,000 for each academic year. Renewal in the second semester is based on continued performance in accordance with the minimum standards indicated below. Students must reapply yearly for this scholarship. All applications should be submitted to the Pharmacy Scholarship Committee before August 1 of each year. Scholarship recipients will be notified by the Texas A&M Health Science Center (HSC) Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy no later than August 15 of each year.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, a student must meet all of the following criteria:
- Must be a resident of Webb County;
- Be accepted in the HSC-College of Pharmacy;
- Pharmacy students must maintain full-time status based on an academic year;
- Upon entering the HSC-College of Pharmacy, students receiving the scholarship must maintain the 3.0 GPA.
Texas Federation of Drug Stores Scholarship
General Information
This endowed scholarship fund has been established by a corporation in honor of The Voice of Chain Pharmacy in the State of Texas. The scholarship will be awarded for the academic year in the amount of $1,000 to a worthy student at the HSC-College of Pharmacy (professional program). All applications should be submitted to the Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy Scholarship Committee prior August 1 of each year. Students who receive this scholarship will be notified by August 15.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, a student must meet all of the following criteria:
- Awarded to a pharmacy student in the College's most senior class;
- The selection should be made by the College's appropriate scholarship committee and awarded to a student with an interest in retail pharmacy; and,
- Whenever possible, a Federation member should be involved in the presentation.
P.M. Rangel Family Scholarship Fund
General Information
This endowed scholarship fund has been established in honor of Irma Lerma Rangel. The scholarship will be awarded to one student annually for the academic year (fall and spring, excluding summer) in the amount of $1,500. Renewal in the second semester is based on continued performance in accordance with the minimum standards indicated below. Students must reapply yearly to receive the scholarship. All applications should be submitted to the Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy Scholarship Committee prior to August 1 of each year. Students who receive this scholarship will be notified by August 15.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of South Texas for at least one year prior to the award of the academic scholarship;
- Be currently enrolled at the HSC-College of Pharmacy;
- Have and maintain a 2.75 grade point average or higher (4.0);
- Be a full-time student (i.e., enrolled in 12 credit hours or more per long semester);
- Submit three (3) letters of recommendation from non-relatives (e.g., teachers, mentors, employers).
Note to All Applicants
Scholarship awards are restricted to students who plan to graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) degree at the Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy located on the A&M-Kingsville campus.
- If receiving this scholarship causes a student to exceed her/his financial aid budget, then other need-based aid (other than a Pell grant) will be reduced. These aids may include student loans and/or grants. Contact the HSC Financial Aid Office to determine how these aids may be reduced by scholarships.
- Scholarship awards subject to availability of funds.
- Scholarships awarded for College of Pharmacy needs (i.e., tuition, fees, books, on-campus housing).
- Scholarships cannot be awarded simultaneously with Presidential or other scholarship.
