When did the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy open?
The TAMHSC College of Pharmacy accepted its inaugural class in Fall 2006 with 76 students admitted to the Class of 2010.

When can I apply for admission?
Applications for admission are online and are available by clicking here.

When is the admissions application deadline?
Applications must be postmarked by January 15.

What do I need to apply?
A complete application packet should include:

  • A TAMHSC College of Pharmacy Admissions Application.
  • Transcripts from each college/university attended. Do not send electronic transcripts.
  • A $100 non-refundable application fee is required. Submit payment on Touch Net. Should you have problems processing your payment, please contact 361.593.4271 for assistance
  • Three confidential recommendation forms in sealed envelopes; at least two must be from college professors.
  • A Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT); scores more than three years old will not be considered. PCAT scores must be submitted directly from the testing center. TAMHSC College of Pharmacy code: 097. PCAT taken in January of same year of application period will not be considered as scores will not arrive by January 15 deadline.

Note: Students are not required to apply to Texas A&MUniversity-College Station in addition to applying to the Texas A&MHealth Science Center Rangel College of Pharmacy.

What scores do I need for admission (e.g. PCAT, GPA)?
Admission will be on an individual basis, with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and a minimum 40% or higher PCAT score are required to be considered. These criteria will factor into the interview process.

What happens after I apply?

  • E-mail notifications are sent to applicants to confirm receipt of their application materials.
  • Applicants selected to interview will be notified by e-mail.
  • Interviews are held throughout the month of February.
  • Denial letters are not sent to applicants that were invited to interview, as they are placed on a rank list and an offer can be made anytime between mid-March to late-July.

What courses should I take? Will my courses transfer to the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy?
The college considers for admission students who have completed a minimum of 72 credit hours at a fully accredited U.S. college or university. Equivalencies for accredited Texas colleges/universities. Compare your coursework to courses offered at Texas A&MUniversity.

Course substitutions are not permitted. Applicants who have earned coursework five or more calendar years prior to applying to the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy, but who have not earned a bachelor’s degree, must retake the prerequisites to be considered for admission.

Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and Dual Credit are accepted if posted on your transcript from an accredited U.S. college or university.
AP scores may also be sent directly to the Rangel College of Pharmacy from the College Board (Use code #6509)

When should my prerequisites be completed?
Students offered admission to the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy have until the end of Summer II to complete all prerequisites for admission.

How will I know the status of my application?
Admission counselors at the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy will send an e-mail notification to confirm receipt of your application materials. Applicants invited to interview will be notified by e-mail.

What are the HSC-COP Transcript, Credentials Evaluation, and English Language Proficiency Requirements for International Students?

  • An applicant must send one official copy of each international transcript (native language and certified English translation) describing all academic studies attempted and completed. All course information must be submitted whether or not credit was earned. No portion of the applicant';s previous academic records is disregarded; it is reviewed and calculated as part of the required cumulative grade point average for admission consideration to the HSC-COP Doctor of Pharmacy Program.
  • International transcripts should indicate the dates each subject began and ended, semester hours earned or clock hours attended, and the grades (marks) earned.
  • If a degree was earned, the date awarded must be indicated on the transcript; otherwise, a degree statement from the designated official (e.g., registrar) must be provided from the respective university.
  • An official transcript is one issued by the designated official (e.g., registrar, principal, or responsible school administrator) and forwarded directly to the HSC-COP. All required official transcripts (native language and certified English translations) must be sent to the HSC-COP, along with the COP application for admission consideration.
  • All transcripts become the property of the HSC-COP/HSC Registrar and cannot be returned to the applicant.
  • In addition to official international transcripts, applicants are required to submit a foreign credentials transcript evaluation of those transcripts. List of acceptable credentialing agencies
  • Applicants should submit a TOEFL score of 550 (213 computer based: 80 on the Internet based test) or higher; scores must be sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS) (use code 5387). A TOEFL score more than two years old is not accepted.

  • All foreign students must fulfill U.S. Homeland Security requirements by contacting the Office of International Services.
  • International students who have earned a four-year baccalaureate or higher degree (all credits must be earned in the U.S.) at a regionally-accredited U.S. institution will not be required to submit TOEFL scores.
  • International students admitted to the Doctor of Pharmacy program are classified as non-resident students; therefore, they must pay non-resident tuition and any applicable fees.

Consequently, the application process is very competitive. Grade point average is important. The entering class averaged a 3.37 GPA on the required pre-pharmacy classes and a 3.42 GPA on prerequisite math/science/English/communication classes.

In the class, the number of students who earned a bachelor’s degree or higher upon enrollment is approximately 49%.

The average age for the entering class was approximately 25, with an age range of 18-54.

The class gender is approximately 45% female and 55% male. The class ethnicity consists of 23% Asian, 3% Black, 37% Hispanic, 34% White and 3% Other.

Fall 2007

For the fall 2007 class the College received 604 applications for 77 seats.
