When did the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy open?
The TAMHSC College of Pharmacy accepted its inaugural class in Fall 2006 with 76 students admitted to the Class of 2010. 

 

 

 

When can I apply for admission?

 

 

 

When is the admissions application deadline?
Applications must be postmarked by February 1.

 

 

 

What do I need to apply?
A complete application packet should include:

  1. A TAMHSC College of Pharmacy Admissions Application.
  2. A Residency Determination Packet.
  3. Transcripts from each college/university attended. Do not send electronic transcripts.
  4. A $100 non-refundable application fee in the form of a personal check (no temporary checks), cashier’s check, or money order payable to TAMHSC College of Pharmacy.
  5. Three confidential recommendation forms in sealed envelopes; at least two must be from college professors.
  6. A Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT); scores more than three years old will not be considered. PCAT scores must be submitted directly from the testing center. TAMHSC College of Pharmacy code: 097. PCAT taken in January of same year of application period will not be considered as scores will not arrive by February 1 deadline.

What scores do I need for admission (e.g. PCAT, GPA)?
Admission will be on an individual basis, with a cut-off GPA of 2.75 and a minimum 50% composite PCAT score required to be considered.  These criteria will factor into the interview process.

What happens after I apply?

  1. E-mail notifications are sent to applicants to confirm receipt of their application materials.
  2. Applicants selected to interview will be notified by e-mail in the latter part of February and early March.
  3. Interviews are held throughout the month of March.
  4. Denial letters are not sent to applicants that were invited to interview, as they are placed on a wait list and an offer can be made anytime between mid-April to mid-July.

What courses should I take? Will my courses transfer to the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy?

The college considers for admission students who have completed a minimum of 72 credit hours at a fully accredited U.S. college or university.  To determine course equivalencies for accredited Texas colleges/universities, please visit the following web site:http://statecore.its.txstate.edu. Compare your coursework to courses offered at Texas A&M University.

Course substitutions are not permitted. Applicants who have earned coursework five or more calendar years prior to applying to the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy, but who have not earned a bachelors degree, must retake the prerequisites to be considered for admission.     

 

 

 

When should my prerequisites be completed?

Students offered admission to the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy have until the end of Summer II to complete all prerequisites for admission.  

 

 

 

How will I know the status of my application?

Admission counselors at the TAMHSC College of Pharmacy will send an e-mail notification to confirm receipt of your application materials. Applicants invited to interview will be notified by e-mail in late February or early March.

 

 

 

What are the HSC-COP Credentials Evaluation and English Language Proficiency Requirements for International Students?

  • Applicants with international transcripts are required to submit a foreign credentials transcript evaluation. Visit the following web site for a list of acceptable credentialing agencies: http://www.naces.org/
  • Applicants should submit a TOEFL score of 550 or higher; scores must be sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS). A TOEFL score should not be more than two years old.
  • To view the TOEFL test date calendar, visit: www.ets.org/toefl/. All foreign students must fulfill U.S. Homeland Security requirements by contacting the HSC Office of International Services. To contact that office, please visit: http://tamhsc.edu/ois/index.html
  • International students who have completed a four-year baccalaureate or higher degree at a regionally-accredited U.S. institution will not be required to submit TOEFL scores.
  • International students admitted to the Doctor of Pharmacy program are classified as non-resident students; therefore, they must pay non-resident tuition and any applicable fees.

How do the admitted applicant pools look each year?

Fall 2006

For the fall 2006 class the College received 575 applications for 76 seats.

Consequently, the application process is very competitive. Grade point average is important. The entering class averaged a 3.37 GPA on the required pre-pharmacy classes and a 3.42 GPA on prerequisite math/science/English/communication classes.

The average Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) composite score for the entering class is 74%.

In the class, the number of students who earned a bachelor’s degree or higher upon enrollment is approximately 49%.

The average age for the entering class was approximately 25, with an age range of 18-54.

This class gender is approximately 45% female and 55% male. The class ethnicity consists of 23% Asian, 3% Black, 37% Hispanic, 34% White and 3% Other.


Fall 2007 

For the fall 2007 class the College received 604 applications for 77 seats.

Consequently, the application process is very competitive. Grade point average is important. The entering class averaged a 3.28 GPA on the required pre-pharmacy classes and a 3.26 GPA on prerequisite math/science/English/communication classes.

The average Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) composite score for the entering class is 79%.

In the class, the number of students who earned a bachelor’s degree or higher upon enrollment is approximately 44%.

The average age for the entering class was approximately 24, with an age range of 19-33.

This class gender is approximately 49% female and 51% male. The class ethnicity consists of 31% Asian, 4 % Black, 36% Hispanic, 29% White and 0% Other.

 

Fall 2008

For the fall 2008 class the College received 583 applications for 87 seats.

Consequently, the application process is very competitive. Grade point average is important. The entering class averaged a 3.39 GPA on the required pre-pharmacy classes and a 3.38 GPA on prerequisite math/science/English/communication classes.

The average Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) composite score for the entering class is 77%.

In the class, the number of students who earned a bachelor’s degree or higher upon enrollment is approximately 33%.

The average age for the entering class was approximately 23, with an age range of 18-35.

For the fall 2009 class the College received 518 applications for 87 seats.

Consequently, the application process is very competitive. Grade point average is important. The entering class averaged a 3.29 on the required pre-pharmacy classes and a 3.27 GPA on prerequisite math/science/English/communication classes.

The average Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) composite score for the entering class is 73%.

In this class, the number of students who earned a bachelor's degree or higher upon enrollment is approximately 62%.

The average age for the entering class was approximately 24, with an age range of 18-44.
