Teaching Interests
Professor Bowman has taught numerous disease topics in pharmacotherapeutics, and is very supportive of an integrated curriculum in which all disciplines teach a particular disease or drug topic during the same time frame.
Research Interests
Professor Bowman has contributed research efforts in the use of biodegradable drug delivery systems and the use of an angiogenic growth factor for chronic wound healing. He was successful in obtaining an Investigational New Drug Exemption for the use of fibroblast growth factor-1 in a topical fibrin matrix for a clinical study of pressure ulcer healing. This required preparing a master cell bank of recombinant bacteria, complete characterization of one lot of FGF-1, and stability studies demonstrating that bioactivity is retained throughout the study period.
