Drug Information Center
The Drug Information Center (DIC) at the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy is an academic and consultative service that provides accurate, current and unbiased evidence-based drug information. Information obtained from the DIC promotes rational drug therapy to health care providers affiliated with TAMHSC, including faculty and preceptors. At this time, the DIC does not provide services to the public.
The DIC is housed on the second floor of the pharmacy building within the College of Pharmacy Library and is the primary site for teaching drug information competencies including efficient retrieval skills, critically analyzing information, and accurate communication of the appropriate response. At this time, the DIC has 3 desktop computers, 2 printers, and most references and resources that are utilized by the DIC are electronic.
The DIC has access to the Texas A&M University Libraries which are highly regarded for its diversified and substantial collections, training, and services. According to a study by Stephen E. Wimberley in the May 2006 issue of College and Research Libraries, Texas A&M University Libraries ranked number one in scholarly publishing among U.S. academic libraries. Current library holdings include 3.4 million volumes. According to the Association of Research Libraries statistics for 2005, total library expenditures were $28.6 million. The scholarly publishing ranking and the collection statistics are indicative of the high standards held by the Texas A&M University Libraries.
